Elan Financial Services Becomes One of First EFT Processors to Certify Automatic Biller Updater with MasterCard

Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania (November 19, 2014) — Elan Financial Services, a leader in EFT processing, announced today that it has been certified to offer MasterCard’s Automatic Biller Updater (ABU) to its debit card issuing financial institutions.

MasterCard ABU helps to update the card information for recurring payments. Recurring card payments can be negatively affected by new card numbers or changed expiration dates as the result of a reissue. ABU automates the process of keeping card data for such payments current with the merchant originating the charge. Therefore, disruptions due to account changes are prevented.

Using ABU can reduce the number of declined authorization requests and lost sale opportunities for account-on-file payments.

“Using the MasterCard ABU helps our debit MasterCard issuers to maintain service continuity, which may mean greater cardholder satisfaction and loyalty, while locking in revenue streams due to lower customer service demand and improved operating efficiencies,” said Troy Cullen, President of Elan Financial Services.  “In addition, the ABU is a wonderful tool in an age where card compromises have triggered a lot of reissues that affect the recurring payments cardholders have established. As a result, in the case of a mass reissue, MasterCard cardholders are less affected.”

“Once cardholders assign automatic payment arrangements to their debit MasterCard cards, they simply expect them to work,” said Michael Fiore, senior vice president, global P2P and Bill Pay, MasterCard.  “MasterCard ABU offers a secure mechanism for issuers and acquirers to exchange and update cardholder account information.  Using the ABU, issuers can inform acquirers and their participating merchants that the issuer has modified cardholder account details.”

Minneapolis (May 13, 2014) –The MoneyPass Network is celebrating another year of increased growth with a contest for cardholders.  The MoneyPass “Caught Without Cash” contest gives cardholders an opportunity to win one of two weekly $100 drawings and a grand prize of $1,000.

The “Caught Without Cash” contest runs through June 1, 2014.  Contestants enter by sharing a brief story about a time they were caught without cash when it was needed, such as paying a babysitter or shopping at a farmers market. Two $100 winners are drawn each week during the contest.  Entries can be voted on by visitors to the contest site and one entry will be chosen from the top ten entries as the grand prize winner at the end of the contest.  MoneyPass participants are encouraged to promote the contest to cardholders as a way to increase awareness of the benefits of MoneyPass access.

The MoneyPass Network experienced a 56 percent increase in transaction volume between 2012 and 2013 on top of a 20 percent transaction growth in both 2011 and 2012.  “We feel this growth is proof that surcharge-free ATM access is important to consumers and so we wanted to reward our cardholders with a fun contest,” said Douglas Miraglia, president of the MoneyPass Network.  “We can attribute some of this growth to our network participants, who are doing a great job creating awareness with their cardholders about the benefits of MoneyPass access. The growth in our prepaid card segment has also led to increased transactions as those cardholders learn about MoneyPass.”

“2013 was an exciting year for MoneyPass.  We celebrated our 10year anniversary.  We achieved record growth.  And now we’re holding a contest to let our cardholders know we value them and to help them remember the benefit they have with MoneyPass,” said Miraglia.

Elan Financial Services Introduces New Tool to Help Financial Institutions Minimize Fraud Losses

MINNEAPOLIS (March 13, 2013) – Elan Financial Services, a leader in EFT processing, has introduced a new Transaction Authorization Block (TAB) tool that allows financial institutions to block ATM or Point of Sale (POS) transactions in real-time, using a combination of criteria used in the Elan authorization process. The new service, known as eTranBlock, lessens fraud losses by allowing financial institutions to manage their own conditions for denying a transaction.

The authorization blocking rules are designed to increase protection against potential payment fraud situations, such as when the theft of debit card data results in fraudulent transactions from a specific location (whether it be a neighboring state or a foreign country) or at a specific type of merchant.

Elan TAB rules may include one record or multiple records, and records may contain a single rule or a combination of rules set by the client. For example, a rule may contain only a country, or it may contain a dollar amount, a country and/or a Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) code.

"In the past, our fraud specialists would work with financial institution clients to block ATM or POS transactions," said Troy Cullen, President of Elan Financial Services. "Now, we are taking the process one step further by allowing our clients to add and manage their own real-time transaction denials through eTranBlock. By using eTranBlock, our clients can decline potentially high-risk transactions at the point of authorization, because they have real-time transaction monitoring and an intuitive user interface that lets them take action with a click of their mouse."

"Elan eTranBlock has been a very useful tool for First Collinsville Bank. We have peace of mind knowing that eTranBlock is available to our bank 365 days a year, 24 hours a day. When unusual activity is suspected we can immediately block the transaction to eliminate the fraud loss," said Dale Holzinger, Computer Operations Supervisor, FCB Banks. "In addition, if we have a customer that is attempting to make a purchase and they are denied because of a rule that we have in place we can instantly exception their card out until the transaction has been processed successfully. eTran Block compliments the other tools and expertise that Elan has to offer our organization and has helped us stabilize the fraud losses that we have seen escalated each year. The experience and cooperation from the Elan Fraud team has been a valuable resource to the implementation and support of eTran Block."

With Elan eTranBlock, clients may:

  • tailor denial conditions to a specific footprint;
  • create, update or delete TAB rules according to their schedule;
  • create Individual Rule Exceptions (IRE) to remove individual cards from a specific TAB rule condition; and
  • engage Elan for assistance with denial conditions, as needed.

"eTranBlock represents a significant step in improving our client’s ability to combat fraud," Cullen said. "At Elan, we want to make our client’s battle against fraud as collaborative and intuitive as possible."

To learn more about Elan eTranBlock call 800-343-7064.
